Speech of New Zealand

Hello, I’m Miyu Kimura. I’ll talk about volcanoes in New Zealand and Japan.

First, in New Zealand, there are famous volcanoes in the Tongariro National Park. At there there is Mt.Ruapef, Mt.Ngaruhoe, and Mt.Tongariro. The highest mountain, Mt.Ruapefu is 2797m high and erupted in 1995 and 1996. But people can enjoy skiing and hiking at there.
In Japan, Mt.Fuji and Ontake-san are famous. Mt.Fuji is 3776m high and erupted in 1707. At Mt.Fuji, we can enjoy mountain climbing.

When you enjoy some activities, I recommend you to know about each mountain well and obey the rules.

Volcanoes in New Zealand

In New Zealand, there are the Northern Island and the Southern Island. Some volcanoes are in the Southern Island, because under the South Island, the Pacific plate tectonics is striking the India and Australian plate tectonics. Therefore in west of the Southern Island, they made volcanoes.

In one of the most famous national parks,
the Tongariro National Park, there are three big volcanoes. They are Mt.Ruapefu (2797m), Mt.Ngauruhoe (2291m), and Mt.Tongariro (1968m). These volcanoes are active volcanoes, but people enjoy skiing and hiking. Are they dangerous? To keep safe, watch systems check these mountains.

From ancient times,
Maori have believed and treasured that volcanoes erupted by sacred mountains which sent from hometown over the sea. But they thought that these mountains might be deprived, so head of Maori gave to Australia in 1894. It became one of the World Heritage Site in 1994. This park is famous for The Lord of the Rings.

Geography of New Zealand

New Zealand has glacier, fiord, steep mountains, plains, hills, primeval forests, volcanoes, white beach. What a strange!

New Zealand consists of two big islands,
South Island nd North Island. In north Island, there are 9 volcanoes. In South Island, Southern Alps and Mt. cook which is the highest mountain of that. Its official name is “Aoraki” which means “cloud of peak” in Maori.

New Zealand extends on two plate tectonics, the Pacific tectonics and the Australia tectonics. This tectonics has moved, and earthquake and upheaval often happen, so there are a lot of natural dangerous. On the other hands, it makes hot springs and beautiful physiognomy.

Now there are about 150
hot springs in New Zealand, especially they are in South Island, because under the North Island two plate tectonics strike each other.

Speech of "Kichigai Matsuri"

Hello, everyone! I’m Miyu. We will talk about two “Kichigi “matsyri”. First, Yuu and I will tell you about “Kichigai Matsuri” in Japan. next、Daichi and Mayuko will tell you about it “Kichigai Matsyri” in Belgium and Texas.

Japanese “kIchigai Matstri” is held in Otsu city in Shiga in October. In fact, this festival is called “Nogamisai” by local people. Why do they hold this festival? It was in Kamakura era, there were Nitta Yoshisada and his wife. He was a commander. When his wife heard his death, she went mad and died after him. People think, “Let’s to the memory of her and imitate to be crazy like her!”, so they started to held this festival.
